Small Town World Series: Minocqua Will Host Small Town Baseball Championship

Minocqua, WI (August 22, 2017) – The Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce that the Small Town Baseball World Series will take place on July 20-22, 2018 at the Minocqua 70 West Park Complex.

Small Town Baseball organizes state tournaments in 10 Midwest states with teams from all over the United States, and even Canada, coming to play in the Small Town Baseball World Series. Small Town Baseball is designed for teams with high school enrollments of 700 or under and all players must be from the same school district. Age groups are 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, 14U. State championship tournaments occur throughout the Midwest, and the “World Series” is the final tournament event of the season.

Teams will come from Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Indiana, Ohio, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Canada to play in the World Series. The Small Town Baseball system was designed with the intent to create a lasting experience for teams and towns playing against teams of similar size. In addition to the World Series tournament, there will also be skills competitions, music, food vendors, and on-site games in the Minocqua area. “Small Town Baseball is now in its 7th year of existence. We set out seven years ago to create an experience not just for players, but for everyone that would last a life time,” says Small Town Baseball Founder/CEO Rick Westfall.

The Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce has been working for over a year to secure their place as the host city for this championship. “We anticipate this event will need approximately 1500-2000 hotel rooms over this 3-day period,” says Jane Kincheloe, Group Sales and Marketing Manager at the Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce. “We expect to see hotels in our neighboring communities (Tomahawk, Rhinelander, St. Germain, Eagle River, Manitowish Waters) positively impacted as well.”

There is an estimated $600,000 economic impact on the local communities, which is a tremendous opportunity for the Northwoods area. "This tournament will be a huge benefit to the Minocqua area and our neighboring communities making this a regional event. We are excited to be a leader in bringing large caliber events and groups to the Northwoods. Everyone - from our lodging partners to local attractions, restaurants, shops, and gas stations - will see an impact from this," explains Krystal Westfahl, Executive Director of the Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce.

The World Series tournament will take place July 20-22, 2018. Registration is open to all states and provinces with the same rules applying to all. The registration fee is $295 per team. Additional information and registration links can be found at smalltownbaseball.com.
