Transform your winter blues into winter bliss with a magical getaway to Minocqua, Wisconsin. Nestled in the heart of the Northwoods, our charming region offers everything from adrenaline-pumping snowmobile adventures to peaceful spa retreats. Our carefully crafted itinerary will help you experience the best of this Minocqua in the winter.
Day 1: Ice Skating and Cross-Country Skiing
Grab your skates and go ice skating at the free public ice skating rink behind the Woodruff Town Hall. The beautiful setting is surrounded by pine trees and lighted at night. If the weather outside is frightful, ice skate indoors. Head to the Lakeland Hawks Ice Arena on Old Hwy 51. Check out their website for public skate times and rental options.
In the afternoon, strap on your cross-country skis and explore the trails at Minocqua Winter Park. Beginners will love the gentle Bunny Loop, while dog owners can enjoy the unique Skijor Loop alongside their four-legged friends. For a more intimate experience with nature, try the single-track ski trails that wind through the area's pristine winter landscape.
Day 2: Snowmobiling Adventure
Hit the area’s thousands of miles of trails or explore the scenic Bearskin State Trail for an unforgettable snowmobiling experience. Note: You’ll need to purchase a trail pass before you hit the trails. If you are a member of an AWSC Snowmobile Club you can score a deal on trail passes, so plan ahead & join a club.
Our trail system includes the following convenient connections from Minocqua:
-
West to Price County (Pike Lake Area)
-
North to Lac Du Flambeau (Lake of The Torches Casino and Resort)
-
East to Lake Tomahawk
-
South to the Willow Flowage Area

Day 3: Ice Fishing and Northern Lights Viewing
Experience the time-honored tradition of ice fishing in Wisconsin with Captain Hook's Fishing Adventures. Winter is one of the best times to catch Walleye, Crappie, and Northern Pike. Guided trips include the use of a heated ice shack and all the gear you’ll need.
If you still have a little luck left over from your fishing adventure, you may get a chance to watch for the Northern Lights in Wisconsin. Serious aurora hunters guard their prime viewing spots, but you’ll find plenty of viewing areas in the Minocqua area. We recommend you start at boat landings at that point north or in remote areas with low light pollution. Another popular vantage point is the Powell Marsh Overlook within the Powell Marsh Wildlife Area. Be on the lookout for a hazy green on the horizon and happy hunting!
Day 4: Sledding and Ziplining
Start your morning with an exhilarating sledding session at the Lake Tomahawk Boat Landing, a local favorite with the perfect combination of climb-friendly slopes and thrilling descents. Don't forget your sled! Warm up afterward with a hot cup of soup at the Hazelhurst Pub before the rest of your adventuring.
In the afternoon, brave the winter air at Northwoods Zip Line Adventure Tours, home to the Midwest's most extensive zipline course. Soar 1,000 feet over pristine wilderness and lakes, and take in breathtaking views of the snow-covered Northwoods.
Day 5: Relaxing at Local Spas
Conclude your winter retreat with a day of pure relaxation. Start at True Vibrations Massage & Reiki Therapy, where you can indulge in therapeutic deep tissue massage or holographic sound healing sessions. Then, embrace Nordic traditions at Unwind, where you'll learn the art of stress relief through their hot-cold-rest-rehydrate cycle in their authentic sauna experience. Just remember to bring a swimsuit and sandals!
