Successful Fundraisers Thanks to Volunteers and Local Business Sponsors
On Saturday, April 10th, a handful of determined LAMBO members braved the bad weather to spend two hours riding lap after treacherous lap up Frank the Tank’s Hill at the Zip Mountain Bike Trail, all for the purpose of raising money for a new pump track. Together these volunteers rode nearly 300 laps and raised over $2000 in pledges. Sponsors included family and friends, but also a number of local businesses, including The Boathouse, Sonders Café, Northfork Fin & Filet, Bad Bones BBQ, Minocqua Lakeside, Trapp Electric, Hazelhurst Pub, Rocky Reef, Tim McMahon Appraisals, Stony Creek and more. We hope for just as much success with our 2nd round of fundraising on Saturday, April 17th.
A pump track is series of small hills, rollers and banked turns arranged as a circuit. Pump tracks give riders of all ages and skill fun and exciting new challenges. It builds skill, improves balance and coordination, and enhances stamina and core strength. This new development will draw visitors in from surrounding areas and encourage them to spend more time in the Minocqua area. It’s a perfect add-on to the existing trail systems supported by LAMBO.
LAMBO (Lakeland Area Mountain Bike Organization) is a club of nearly 100 members and dozens of active volunteers who help build and maintain trails for silent sports. These include trails for mountain biking, winter fat biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing here in the Minocqua area as well as near St. Germain and Sayner. LAMBO’s most popular trail is the Zip trail just south of Minocqua, at the end of Adventure Lane off of U.S. 51. This trail system includes both technical hand-built single track and smooth, flowy machine-built trail, great for beginner, intermediate and advanced riders.
Local, Public Use Pump Track Coming this Summer
This Spring kicks off two new projects at the Zip – more downhill trails and a new, public use Pump Track at the base of Frank the Tank’s Hill, near the Zip trailhead. LAMBO met with the Town of Minocqua to review plans and shortly after accepted a bid from Travis Bellman Home and Trails to begin building. LAMBO expects to complete this project in time for summer use.
The LAMBO Pump Track, anticipated to cost up to $25,000, is being funded entirely by donations and local fundraising efforts, including Frank the Tank’s Hill Challenge on April 10th and 17th.
